Coco Lambed!! ~ February 6, 2013

What a crazy/busy life I live! Wednesday afternoon, February 6th, 2013 I went on a run with my mom and sisters and when I got back I found Coco having a lamb. The lamb was pretty stuck, so mom had to pull it out. She had a beautiful single ewe lamb! The lamb is white with some chocolate on her nose.

We moved the new lamb and mother to a jug in the barn . . .the lamb nursed and both mother and daughter were doing fine.

At around 3:00am early Friday (2-8-13) morning we got up to check on the pregnant animals in the barn and found 1 ewe had lamb and a couple goats kidded. Then, as I was going back in the house I decided to just peek at Coco . . . I tried to stand her up and she wouldn't stand (she eventually stood up by herself, but was VERY weak). I noticed that the lamb was also pretty hungry (like she hadn't nursed for a little while), so I gave the lamb 8 oz of milk in a bottle (she drank it down fast) and gave Coco (the ewe) 30mls of M.F.O and then we went back to bed for a few hours . . . but, sad to say, my mom got up and she found Coco dead, with her lamb curled up next to her (the lamb is very sad) :( Coco was a very sweet sheep. She was one of my favorite ewes (very calm and sweet) :( The little ewe lamb is now a bottle lamb. Job 1:21 - " ......The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

The dam to the lamb is Coco, a chocolate and white ticked Katahdin ewe we used to own and the sire is a white Katahdin ram . . .Coco was bred before we bought her.

The lamb's name is Coco Chip!

Mount Cayley Lambed!! ~ February 4, 2013

~ Monday, February 4th, 2013 ~

What a crazy day I have had! I was awakened by my mom at about 5:00am or so saying that a sheep is having lambs in the rain! So, I flew up and ran out there and sure enough, one of my Finn ewes, Mount Cayley had 2 ewe lambs on the ground (in the pouring rain). We brought her and her 2 lambs back to the barn and then a little later we heard a baby goat screaming . . . we ended up finding 1 of our Mini Nubian goats had twin kids (buck and doe) and another one of our dairy goats had twin doelings!

Mount Cayley ended having triplet ewe lambs (2 white lambs and 1 HST black lamb)!

Well, we left 2 of the lambs on their mother and the other one almost died from hypothermia, so I put her on a bottle . . . she ended up passing away about 1 week later . . . I believe she was a little preemie and it was just to much on her tiny body :(

The sire to the lambs is FSB 617 Panda, our registered Finnsheep ram and the dam to the lambs is FSB 615 Mount Cayley, one of our registered Finnsheep ewes.

Tiger Lily Lambed!! ~ February 1, 2013

Early Friday morning, February 1st, 2013 my mom found Tiger with twin lambs on the ground. She had 2 beautiful big white ewe lambs . . . they have good conformation so far and are pretty stocky little girls. If they had more color on them I would probably be keeping them, but since I am focusing on doing colored Katahdins, I don't plan to keep any pure white lambs. I am keeping 1 white ewe lamb right now, but that is only because the lambs dam passed away and I am keeping her as a replacement ewe . . .but, she does carry color in her genetics.

The sire to the lambs is Martinez, a registered Katahdin ram we used to own and the dam is Tiger Lily, a chocolate and white ticked Katahdin ewe of ours.

These 2 little girls will be up for sale at weaning age.
