On Wednesday, January 16th, 2013 my mom found Arizona (one of our Katahdin ewes) with new born triplet lambs in the shed! It was cold out, but they all nursed and Arizona kept them in the shed away from the wind.
Later that night we moved them all in a stall in the barn (just so the little girls couldn't get lost from momma). A little after we moved them in I found that one of the little girls was not doing so great, so we decided to bring her in, warm her up and put her on a bottle. Meanwhile we checked on the other 2 girls and they both were nursing on momma and doing fine.
Then, Thursday morning my mom found another one of the 3 girls laying flat on her side and dying from Hypothermia. She brought her in the warm house and tried warming her up . . . but, it was too late :( She got too cold and and died in my mom's arms.
The dam is one of our red & white Katahdin ewes, Arizona Jewel and the sire I believe is also a Katahdin, but I do not know for sure (since I got the ewe already bred).
Arizona had 3 beautiful ewe lambs that all looked very much like her! Too bad we lost one of them . . .but, life and death both come with ranching.
Here is the little bottle girl. She is doing good now and drinking her bottle well.
